What You'll Learn

Our RYA Advanced Powerboat course is designed for experienced powerboat drivers looking to refine their skills and operate safely and confidently in more challenging conditions. The course teaches boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a planing powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters.

For those already at the level of Advanced and want an intensive 2 day course this is an option. We do prefer to do this course over 3 days - the Advanced Plus - for those that really want to master the skills required to fully make the most of this course.

Course Covers

  • Advanced boat handling at speed and in rougher conditions
  • Pilotage by day and night
  • Night navigation and running at planing speeds in the dark
  • Use of radar and electronic navigation aids
  • Tidal streams, weather and passage timing
  • Seamanship and decision-making under pressure
  • Man overboard and other emergency drills at higher speeds
  • Operating safely in busy and constrained waters

Is there parking on site?

Yes, there is a car park which is free of charge.

What happens if it is bad weather?

It is rare that we need to cancel courses due to bad weather. Our location on the Medway means we have a good sheltered location to train in. However if this is the case we can find a mutually suitable time to rearrange.

Can I do the Advanced Certificate of Competency?

Yes, doing the exam can be arranged, please contact us for details on this.

I can get this course cheaper elsewhere - why does this cost more than some other courses?

We use high spec equipment, our trainers are all Advanced Powerboat Instructors and we pay a good wage for the industry to reflect their skillset. Cutting course costs will inevitably lead to cutting corners elsewhere, and we believe in high quality equipment and training quality.
